Launching LiveNote™: Putting a Mobile App in the Hands of Audiences

LiveNote is an interactive concert guide that audiences view on their mobile devices to learn more about the repertoire as the Orchestra plays on stage.

The Philadelphia Orchestra and Drexel University shared a vision to provide audiences with musical and historical context about the repertoire being performed by the Orchestra in Philadelphia’s Verizon Hall. In 2011, the two organizations joined forces and secured a grant from the Knight Foundation to build an interactive concert guide that audiences would view on their mobile devices while the Orchestra played on stage. Fast forward to 2015 and the culmination of this vision is the LiveNote app.

"The elusive new patron most likely has never attended an orchestra concert, does not know the composer of the piece being performed, cannot name all of the instruments on the stage, has no idea what the significance of the piece is, and is not encouraged to explore these questions during the concert."

In his talk, Ezra discusses LiveNote content and application development, infrastructure considerations and audience reaction. Click the play button above to watch the talk.
