For over 30 years, Steppenwolf for Young Adults (SYA) has created world-class programming that speaks to the teen identity.

In this presentation, learn how SYA tells stories that bring attention to the immediate needs of youth in the community and connects them with resources to effect change in their lives. Lauren will also touch on the Young Adult Council, Steppenwolf’s arts leadership program for Chicago-area teens.

As the Education and Community Programs Coordinator at Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Lauren Sivak runs its Young Adult Council after-school program and Behind the Scene, a community partner engagement program.
Since moving to Chicago in 2009, Lauren has had the privilege of working as an actor, teaching artist, and storyteller (Write Club, Story Club, The BYOB Story Hour, Sidetrack’s OUTspoken!, and Beauty Bar's Salonathon series). 

In addition to her role at Steppenwolf, Lauren works as General Manager for 2nd Story. Her story ‘Beginnings’ was published in Story Club Magazine’s first issue. Prior to accepting her position with 2nd Story, Lauren served as the Managing Director of Walkabout Theater Company where she oversaw the rebranding of the company’s visual and online identity, produced The Wild, and performed in the company’s guerrilla-style theatre piece Beach Party at the End of the World.
