In 2010, the Detroit Symphony Orchestra adopted an audacious challenge from its board’s Technology Task Force – to become the most accessible orchestra on the planet.

Its groundbreaking Live from Orchestra Hall webcast series, as well as other digital initiatives, have reinvigorated the institution and have brought acclaim from the New York Times, NPR and other national news outlets, as well as international attention. In this talk, Scott will discuss how the DSO is using digital media to strengthen current relationships and to create new audiences. He’ll share success stories, as well as thoughts on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

As the DSO’s chief engagement officer in pursuit of a fully activated and deployed governance structure, Scott Harrison works with board leadership, musicians, and staff to fulfill DSO strategic objectives, as well as leads the organization’s commitment to digital access through a variety of electronic media projects and social channels.
In 2011, he created Live from Orchestra Hall, the first webcast series by any American orchestra, which has since been viewed by over 500,000 music lovers in over 80 countries worldwide. A graduate of Northwestern University and Southern Methodist University, he previously worked for the Boston, New Jersey, Dallas, and Indianapolis symphony orchestras.
